BECAUSE WE – The legacy of our 20th Century:
Because there is so much information to absorb, we grab the consensus answer.
Because the pressure is to immediately declare, we converse in soundbites.
Because the tallest nail invites a hammer, we choose not to speak.
Because it is easier to declare feelings than to make reasoned judgements, we speak like children.
Because we are asked, ‘How do you feel about it?’, we surrender to the spew of emotions.
Because we confuse ‘certainty’ with the truth of all things, we dismiss universal principles.
Because it is easier to cut than to construct, we opt for zero-sum thinking.
Because the past imbues us, we paint the future with its colors.
Because we understand the need to act and see the state of things, we neglect the effects of structure.
Because we are awash in changes, we fear that doctrines will diminish us.
THUS:
“Because we seek knowledge through deconstruction and embrace a ‘triumph of particulars’ as the highest path to understanding, we are reduced to the insanity of evaluating all things by looking through pinholes.” Neal Ostman
EVIL – It’s forgotten state:
Evil leaches.
In our busy lives, trying to make a way, we truncate evaluations and re-act to nearness. We react to evil when it touches near us, where it is easy to topically treat. We fail to recognize and deal with its true cause.
Because evil diffuses as it leaches, it causes multiple problems. Many solutions, stop-gap or remediating symptoms, will quickly come to the fore. We are then off chasing ineffective, miss-directed plans. The problem seems to morph into other issues. We are embroiled in transferring our efforts to issues nearer and easier (less painful) to correct. But, ultimately, because building a wall around evil or trying to dam its rivulets are a waste of resources, our frustrations grow. We become exhausted and hopeless. In the worst case we adopt these evils as our new state.
Because the deconstructionist mind-set teaches us to search for causes and not truths— ignore principles, favor events— we diminish responsibilities and excuse what is professed. Saying, ‘that is not what someone really meant– it was really caused by this -identity/motivation/history.’ In this approach evil intentions and even goodness are side-stepped – left unaccounted.
Hear this – evil unlike love is owned. It conforms where love transforms. If as one said, ‘attitude is the paintbrush of the mind,’ then evil unrecognized and unconfronted will flood our attitudes, blanket our actions forcing us from all paths but its own.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Ps 111:10 EVS
